When we entered the house of Robert Spear, vanished almost a century ago, the only thing we knew is that he was a scientist. He allegedly disappeared a few days before he was meant to present a ground-breaking invention to the public. Not even his family knew what he was doing. Spear’s place was full of notes and pieces about of some sort of device, but we were not sure what it was or what it did. We could only say that the place was not totally strange, it was actually very familiar…

Clockworks is a beautiful game created by EscapeXperience in partnership with Escape Room Melbourne (ERM).  The setting, with touches of vintage and steampunk, is very well thought: the game is meant to be a prequel to Escape Room Flemington, one of the first escape games built in Australia by ERM and a classic in Melbourne. The result was an intricate-looking and fun game, with a great flow and creative ending.

You all wake up at the same time and don’t know what is happening. Why are you in a hospital? Why is it chaos outside? How did you get in? And hey, how do you get OUT? This was the situation we found ourselves in EscapeXperience’s Amnesia –  a fast paced game where players have 60 minutes to remember who they are and to escape this mysterious predicament.

EscapeXperience: Burlesque [Review]

Locatescapexperience-redion: EscapeXperience, Oakleigh, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

Date completed:  April 2016 (3 players). Succeeded escaping!

Creativity: 10Difficulty: 8.5; Atmosphere: 10; Fun: 9.5.

  • 2-6 players (we recommend 4).

Wow. Wow! What was this room? We were sent into a club called Burlesque to investigate a series of mysterious disappearances. The 60 minutes we had to go undercover and make a break in the case were simply amazing.

The room was co-designed with the crew from Escape Room Melbourne (ERM), so we expected that Burlesque would be an immersive experience given ERM’s track record. However, what did come as a surprise was how sumptuously EscapeXperience decorated the escape room to create the beautiful setting of a decadent and cozy Roaring Twenties clubhouse. The numerous props and the music matched the atmosphere of the era and did not come across as tacky. Furniture, silverware, drinking glassware, gramophone, wigs…. All that jazz!

The beautiful way Burlesque is executed, along with the well blended puzzles and immersion experience gave us no doubt: we scored it 10 for both Creativity and Atmosphere – the first time we’ve rated a room with perfect scores in two categories.
