In Sabotage, the second room we played at Secret Rooms in Milan, you have a “simple” mission: save the world from the Third World War. You are agents from a special task force and must infiltrate a secret military base to steal the nuclear warhead launch codes. You must also find out where is the launch site.

If you play escape rooms regularly, you have probably come across a “stop the bomb” scenario by now. However, Sabotage has many strong points, the best of them being that all puzzles are part of the story and are well tied-in with the plot. You actually have to pay attention to information about places, people and other random data that you find along your way.

We found out about Secret Rooms while looking for things to do in Milan on Trip Advisor. Looking at rooms in there is a bit of a hit and miss, for reasons well discussed in this post by  Escaperoomer. However, this one was certainly a big hit: Nightmare was a very elaborate, complex and bold room. Thankfully, not TOO scary! 😀

The story is simple. You wake up and you find out that you’re not in the real world anymore. Your spirit is trapped in some sort of nightmare. You must use the power of five mystical medallions and your wits to escape this creepy realm. This room makes excellent use of technology and does not require language for the puzzles – you only use a bit of English or Italian if you need hints.

A series of disappearances followed by the kidnapping of a little girl in a dark alley of Milan is the background story to The Tomb, certainly the darkest themed room we’ve played in months. As you progress in the game and investigate the area where she was last seen, the secrets and information that unfold will make the kind-hearted gasp.

Trap Milano created a large, intense and extremely well equipped room in The Tomb. The first area is a recreation of a dark alley with residences to explore, mailboxes, benches, trash bins. There is a lot to do, and playing with only two players, we ran out of  time as we reached the final puzzle. So, grab a team of 4 or 5 before entering The Tomb. According to Trap, only 20% of groups manage to reach the end.

We surely lost count of how many locks we have opened since we started playing escape rooms, a bit more than a year ago. So, when our gamemaster in Trap Milano said The Pyramid had no locks at all, we were quite surprised. “Not even one?”. Nope. An entire room with a lot of puzzles, but no keys and no number locks to open. Wouldn’t it be enough to call your attention?

Besides that, The Pyramid also has a very interesting story. A pharaoh named Hor had no descendants, so he built a pyramid full of challenging enigmas. Whoever could get out of that mysterious trap would be worth of the throne of Egypt and would become the next pharaoh. Those who perished had their souls lost in the underworld forever.
